Ways to Save - Decorating Style

It's all about decorating on a dime this week! For some reason I have been on a decorating/renovating/changing kick lately. And not just a little bit...it's an all out wanna change everything kick! So here's how I'm satisfying my decorating "needs" without breaking the bank!

...Before you paint, check the "oops" shelf! You can typically get paint for a fraction of the cost of "new" paint! This shelf of paint houses the unused cans of paint that people have mixed and then get home to decide that they don't like. The store can't sell it for full price, so they mark it down in hopes that someone else will fall in love with the color. Just this week I got 3 gallons of paint for only $25 total! I spent $6 each on two cans for my laundry room and $11 on a can for our spare bedroom. So check it out, you'll be amazed with what you'll find!

...Invest in a gallon of black paint. It's amazing what kind of new life black paint can breathe into anything! I gave my bathroom a whole new look by just painting the cupboards black to match the vanity. I am also sanding down and painting a dresser, nightstand and headboard...and plan to give an old lamp a new look by painting the canvas shade black.

...Goodwill, Goodwill, Goodwill! Oh how I love Goodwill. I could just spend hours there sorting through the home decor, thinking in my mind of ways to breathe new life into the ugly. I bought a calandar frame there last week for $1.88 and am currently working on making it into a cute bulletin board! I also bought several small picture frames there that I painted black and made a cute arrangement in our living room!

...Shop the remnant bin at the fabric store! I use remnants of fabric to make runners and the like all of the time! The best part? It only cost $1 or less to begin with, so I can switch it up whenever the mood strikes!

...Rearrange! I've found that just moving things around and arranging furniture differently really gives new life to a room without spending a penny! I try to rearrange every 6 months or so to keep things feeling fresh!

Can you come to my house and help me figure out what to do with my hand-me-down attic decor? I seriously need help!

Oooooo UnfinishedMom...it sounds intriguing! I love anything having to do with hand-me downs, always so much potential! If only you lived closer!

Good luck, I hope you come up with something...and if you really get in a bind, shoot me an email with some pictures, I like a good challenge! ;)
